Independent Viewpoints is committed to creating a public
space that fosters political awareness by providing a
platform for alternative viewpoints, both within the
American Muslim community and between Muslims and other
concerned citizens. In doing so, it seeks to provide the
spark to mobilize individuals into becoming politically
involved, building coalitions, and working in solidarity
for positive change.
Independent Viewpoints was formed in the summer of 2005
with the goal of helping the American-Muslim community
build coalitions with other religious, secular,
political, social, and cultural voting groups within the
US. A prerequisite to that, though, is to first bring
the American-Muslim community together with other
members of the general public and to impress upon them
the need to actively take part in politics.
With
these goals in mind, IV will occasionally organize
similar meetings and seminars to bring together
accomplished scholars and thinkers in arenas such as
political science, law, anthropology and related fields
to address their audiences on pertinent issues.
Independent Viewpoints (IV) is a project of Mohsena
Memorial Foundation, Inc. (MMF), a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt,
non-profit organization and NGO member of the United
Nations based in Princeton, New Jersey. MMF is dedicated
to teaching, learning and disseminating accurate
information about Islam and Muslims.
